Pippa and Brian’s autumn wedding at Abney Park Chapel
A beautiful autumn wedding in Stoke Newington
Abney Park Chapel in Stoke Newington provided the perfect atmospheric backdrop for Pippa and Brian’s October wedding last year. With its soaring Gothic Revival architecture, weathered stonework and stained glass windows filtering the gorgeous autumn light, the chapel was a perfect setting for their intimate ceremony.
I absolutely loved shooting here. It’s such a unique spot, and the surrounding park and streets were perfect for Pippa and Brian’s couple photos, and really reflected their style.
Abney Park Chapel is deconsecrated, meaning that you have the freedom to create your own personal, non-religious ceremony. You can book a registrar with Hackney council to come out and marry you legally, which is what Pippa and Brian did. They chose to keep things simple and meaningful with a small group of their closest friends and family gathered on the original wooden pews. The atmosphere felt warm and cozy despite the grandeur of the space.
We had taking most of Pippa and Brian’s couple photos beforehand, so following the ceremony and confetti photos, they had plenty of time to say hello go their guests during the drinks reception outside. Lots of gorgeous candid shots to be taken during this time, and the late afternoon autumn light was just perfect.
Later on, we all make our way to Mama Shelter by coach for dinner. I loved the contrast between the moody historic vibe of the church with the cool design-led interior at the restaurant. Long tables were set out in the gallery with lots of gorgeous candlelight. I stayed with them for a few candid photos until they started having dinner.
