Rachel & Ben’s wedding at the Coin Laundry, Clerkenwell

I love a good pub wedding, and Rachel and Ben’s relaxed wedding day at the Coin Laundry in Clerkenwell was a pleasure to capture. It was a cool but dry November day and the light was pretty perfect.

The Ceremony

They married in the Council Chamber at Islington Town Hall in the company of lots of their friends and family. It’s the biggest room available at Islington and I always love the historic feel of the room and the lovely daylight streaming in from above. One of their guests sang a beautiful Irish folk song and they had a couple of lovely readings, which made the usually very short legal ceremony a lot more personal and stretch out a bit longer. Whilst their guests lined up for confetti on the steps outside, we took a few photos inside the town hall and then joined their guests for the iconic confetti shot and a few family photos.

After the family photos, and a bit of time for congratulations, we all jumped on a vintage London route master to the Coin Laundry in Clerkenwell. Rachel and Ben were keen to join their guests asap for drinks and mingling, so we took their couple photos in the streets very close to the venue. As I always say to my couples, it doesn’t matter where we are in London, there are always cool and interesting backdrops to be found.

Rachel and Ben had hired out the whole pub, and we started the celebrations off in the cozy bar downstairs with canapes and drinks. They were pretty much at capacity with their number of guests, and there was a great atmosphere. The room upstairs was decorated beautifully for their dinner. They decided to have their speeches in between courses, which split up the evening nicely. After the cake cutting we headed back downstairs for some brilliant traditional chair dancing, which was rather hazardous with the low ceilings and Ben’s height, but great fun. (No one got injured!)
